The World Bank Ethiopia Country Office is currently seeking to fill positions in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. These roles are exclusively available to Ethiopian nationals.

The World Bank’s ongoing energy initiatives and project pipeline in Ethiopia include support for power sector reforms, investment in power transmission and distribution, grid electrification, solar mini grids and standalone solar systems for households and communities, clean cooking solutions, and regional electricity network interconnections.

Position 1: E T Consultant (Senior Public Sector)

Selection Criteria:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field such as public finance, accounting, economics, public policy, or public administration, with at least eight years of pertinent experience.
  • Expertise in governance and institutional development issues at both national and global levels, with deep knowledge in areas like civil service reform, domestic resource mobilization, or public financial management.
  • Proven experience in supporting clients with institutional reforms, including leading policy and technical discussions with high-level government and international officials.
  • Strong skills in reform facilitation, client engagement, and analytical thinking.
  • Proficient in English, with excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team, with a client-oriented approach and strong interpersonal skills.

Position 2: Associate Investment Officer/Investment Officer

Selection Criteria:

  • MBA or equivalent qualification.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in corporate and/or project finance, with a successful record of sourcing, structuring, and closing investments.
  • Advanced financial, credit, and equity skills, with the ability to creatively structure complex debt and equity instruments.
  • Experience with the IFC’s Manufacturing, Agribusiness and Services (MAS) and/or Financial Institutions Groups (FIG) sectors.
  • Experience in African Fragile and Conflict-Affected States (FCS) is preferred.
  • Strong commitment to sustainable economic development, with a background in impact investing considered advantageous.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and economic inclusion challenges for disadvantaged groups is a plus.
  • Proactive, with excellent business development and client relationship skills, and the ability to engage with senior management independently.
  • Exceptional communication skills in English; fluency in other languages such as Amharic or Somali is advantageous.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities, with a demonstrated capability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
  • Detail-oriented, with strong research, quantitative, and computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
