About Vision Fund:

Vision Fund MFI, established under Proclamation No. 40/96, provides financial services to the productive poor in both rural and urban Ethiopia. We currently operate in five regional states.


Role Overview:

We are seeking a Senior Database Administrator to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess the necessary skills and experience to manage and optimize our database systems effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, create, and manage multiple databases; assist in capacity planning.
  • Monitor and maintain database systems; troubleshoot any issues.
  • Continuously evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of database resources; identify improvements and make recommendations.
  • Ensure data integrity and security by managing roles and permissions.
  • Utilize tools like SQL Profiler for database tuning, performance issue identification, and resolution.
  • Develop strategies for backup, restoration, and replication.
  • Create and manage constraints and indexes.
  • Support software developers with complex SQL, DML tuning, and stored procedure creation.
  • Facilitate smooth database migrations and ensure data consistency and integrity.
  • Modify database structures as needed based on application developers’ input.
  • Analyze system problems, perform root cause analysis, and propose solutions.
  • Conduct proactive housekeeping, archiving, and database shrinking.
  • Deploy patches, manage new releases, install software, monitor performance, and troubleshoot alerts.
  • Customize system reports based on user inquiries.
  • Create detailed documentation, including diagrams of database infrastructure.
  • Understand relevant business processes, data flow, and dependencies.
  • Coordinate effectively with internal teams and clients.
  • Ensure successful completion of EOD, EOM, and EOY processes.

Qualifications:

  • Education: B.Sc. degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in Information Technology with at least 3 years as a database administrator.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Experience with Core banking systems.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft SQL, MySQL, and Oracle databases.
    • Familiarity with programming languages such as C#, PHP, and HTML is preferred.
    • Knowledge of object-oriented design patterns and methodologies.
    • Skills in application development management.
  • Additional Skills:
    • Ability to work collaboratively and motivate team members.
    • Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical staff.
    • Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    • Capacity to prioritize and execute tasks under pressure.
    • Flexibility and adaptability in learning new technologies.
    • Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
