Position 1: Senior Driver, JG 3

  • Location: Tigray Region, Mekelle
  • ChildFund Office: Ethiopia
  • Manager/Supervisor Title: Senior Coordinator, Tigray Program Area

Responsibilities and Tasks
  • Stay vigilant and responsive to any child safeguarding risks, acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to promote strong safeguarding practices, understand the child safeguarding policy and procedures, and conduct yourself in a manner consistent with ChildFund’s Safeguarding Policy.
  • Provide transportation services to ChildFund staff and visitors during and outside working hours as needed.
  • Transport ChildFund staff and guests to and from the field and within Addis Ababa as assigned.
  • Greet and assist visitors/staff upon arrival and departure as required.
  • Ensure the safety of the vehicle, assigned tools, and accessories.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and usability of the vehicle at all times.
  • Check oil, fuel, water, tires, brakes, and other electrical systems before driving.
  • Monitor the vehicle’s maintenance needs and promptly report to the immediate supervisor.
  • Adhere to the speed limits set by ChildFund and comply with the country’s traffic regulations.
  • Ensure the use of seat belts and remind passengers to do the same.
  • Maintain a valid driving license.
  • Assist in the distribution of mail to and from other organizations as assigned.
  • Handle liaising and procurement tasks with government offices and other organizations.
  • Report accidents promptly to the immediate supervisor.
  • Maintain a daily vehicle log sheet, recording all trip times, mileage, and destinations legibly.
Required Experience and Education
  • Minimum of five years of experience and a 3rd-grade driving license.
  • Proficiency in spoken English.
  • Trustworthy and reliable.
  • Willingness to work under pressure and potentially long hours.
  • Basic mechanical skills to handle the assigned vehicle.
  • Strong belief in teamwork, gender equality, and sensitivity to HIV/AIDS.

Position 2: Senior Specialist, Grants Writer

This is a remote, full-time, open-ended position available to internal candidates in any of ChildFund’s locations. External candidates with current work authorization and residence in one of our country office locations are also eligible to apply, including Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Guinea, Honduras, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Mexico, Mozambique, the Philippines, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Thailand, The Gambia, Uganda, and Zambia.

To be considered, please submit a resume and a writing sample in English. The writing sample should consist of a two-page excerpt from a proposal or concept note you have drafted.

Required Experience and Education
  • A university degree in a relevant discipline; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • At least six years of experience in grants acquisition with foundations and corporate donors or with UN, multilateral, and bilateral donors from the United States, Global North, and Global South.
  • Experience with grants acquisition for the European Union and European governments is preferred.
  • Significant experience in proposal writing; full-time proposal writing experience is preferred.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Assess funding opportunities for suitability and organizational competitiveness, share findings with colleagues, and advise on appropriate steps for the organization.
  • Lead proposal preparation, collaborating with diverse teams to develop and refine proposals until they meet donor guidelines and are competitive.
  • Provide advice and guidance to proposal teams seeking technical support on specific aspects of proposal development.
  • Develop and deliver training to colleagues on proposal development.

Position 3: Specialist, Safety and Security

Responsibilities and Tasks
  • Develop, monitor, and review country security risk management plans.
  • Conduct risk assessments for all new project and program areas, being aware of expansion plans and proactively communicating needs to inform decision-making.
  • Review existing strategies and advise on corrective actions.
  • Monitor the political, economic, and social context and regularly inform leadership of developments.
  • Strive to ensure safe access to project areas while maintaining security measures.
  • Support the integration of security into operations so that administration and programs are strengthened rather than hindered.
  • Conduct journey management assessments for all domestic trips.
  • Actively promote a culture of incident sharing and risk management.
  • Provide consistent and productive support to all staff.
  • Deliver high-quality and interactive training (e.g., risk assessments, SOP implementation) aligned with the global strategy and training criteria.
  • Communicate foreseeable and present security threats to staff and leadership, utilizing escalation protocols and procedures.
  • Ensure that threats potentially impacting ChildFund are accurately, succinctly, and timely communicated to leadership, staff, and the security department.
  • Maintain all notes, logs, and information during critical incidents as a core incident management team contributor.
  • Develop quality briefings, reports, alerts, and advisories for various stakeholders (Country Director, staff, global security, visitors, and others).
  • Ensure safety adherence reviews at all offices (e.g., fire extinguishers, first aid kits, fire drills) and report any discrepancies.
  • In collaboration with Administration, ensure adherence to the guard force SOP in all offices.
  • Facilitate program access through reliable advice, regular situational reports, and safety advisories as needed.
  • Maintain a strong network and attend security networking opportunities.
  • Contribute to the development of security focal points through training, coaching, and empowerment.
  • Conduct training or drills to support security awareness, standard operating procedures, contingency plans, and other requested areas.
  • Organize capacity-building sessions for security focal points through training, coaching, and close collaboration with field leadership, in consultation with the Senior Manager.

Required Experience and Education
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English and fluency in Amharic.
  • Ability to travel to all regions in the country 40% of the time; occasional international travel may be required.
  • A diploma or university degree in a related field with a minimum of four years of experience in security/risk management with a non-governmental or international organization.
  • Ability to work in a matrix reporting structure.
