The U.S. Mission in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, is in search of eligible and qualified candidates for the role of Maintenance Mechanic (specializing in Generator Mechanics (NEC)). Position: Maintenance Mechanic (Generator Mechanics (NEC))

Qualifications:

EXPERIENCE: Candidates must possess a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of prime or standby power generators within large-scale commercial settings, such as high-rise office buildings, hospitals, college campuses, or local utility companies. Of this experience, at least one year should include working with generators of 1000 KVA or larger.

Education Requirements:

Education: Completion of secondary school is necessary. Completion of a training program from an accredited institute recognized for producing power generation diesel engine mechanics is also required.

Note: Please upload copies of your education documents under “High School Diploma or equivalent.” If you possess a certificate in power generation diesel engine mechanics, include it under “Trade School Course Certificate.”

Evaluations:

LANGUAGE: Level 2 proficiency in English (Limited working knowledge speaking/reading/writing) is required. (This may be tested). Level 3 proficiency in Amharic (Good working knowledge speaking/reading/writing) is also required. (This may be tested).

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: (These may be tested)

Must hold a valid Auto/2nd grade driver’s license and have maintained it for at least five (5) years.

Skills required include diagnosing and repairing diesel engines and large packaged generator and alternator units, testing electrical components, lifting and carrying tools/equipment/parts (max weight 25 kilos), installing emergency standby generator systems, and plumbing lines for diesel fuel transmission and distribution.

Additional abilities involve troubleshooting equipment operation by distinguishing frequencies, sounds, color codes, and odors, responding to emergencies promptly, working efficiently in adverse conditions, communicating effectively orally and in writing, possessing good computer skills for emailing and internet research, managing a heavy workload, and being organized with the ability to work independently while maintaining integrity and confidentiality.
