Position: Sampling Expert for Ethiopia Nutrition and Mortality Study

Project Overview: MSI, under the USAID/Ethiopia and Djibouti Learning Analytics Activity (LAA), is conducting a Nutrition and Mortality Survey in Ethiopia. This survey aims to assess the health and nutritional status in humanitarian contexts and guide interventions and resource distribution. The findings will influence resource allocation and program adjustments by USAID Ethiopia/Office of Humanitarian Assistance (OHA) for 2024-2025, focusing on health, nutrition, WASH, protection, and food security.

Position Details:

Role: Sampling Expert

Duration: Approximately 20 days between late August 2024 and December 2024. Final duration to be confirmed upon study design completion.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop the survey methodology.
  • Design and implement effective sampling strategies.
  • Determine optimal sample size.
  • Review previous sampling approaches for comparative analysis.
  • Guide the team in data analysis methods based on initial sampling strategies.
  • Contribute to the survey work plan and design.
  • Assist in developing survey instruments and respondent selection processes.
  • Collaborate on data analysis.
  • Train data collectors on respondent sampling.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in statistics, epidemiology, or a related field required; PhD preferred.
  • At least five years of experience in nutrition and mortality surveys or similar studies.
  • Proven experience in quantitative and qualitative data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
  • Extensive training and experience in quantitative research and sampling, especially in humanitarian settings.
  • Advanced skills in designing survey methodologies and using statistical software such as SPSS or Stata.
  • Proficiency in English required; knowledge of local languages is a plus.
