With over 40 years of bilateral cooperation in Ethiopia, GIZ operates on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and works with the Ethiopian government and international donors.

Position 1: Diaspora Engagement Expert

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in international relations, development studies, communications, business, social sciences, migration studies, or a related field.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategy Development: Formulate and implement strategies to engage diaspora communities, understanding their needs, and utilizing their skills and resources for development efforts.
  • Stakeholder Relations: Build and sustain relationships with key stakeholders such as government agencies, community organizations, and diaspora networks to promote collaboration.
  • Coordination: Oversee and guide the work of diaspora focal persons, ensuring effective collaboration and engagement with the diaspora in Europe.
  • Research and Analysis: Conduct research and analyze data related to diaspora communities, using insights to guide decision-making and program development.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Assess the effectiveness of diaspora engagement activities, track progress, and measure impact.

Professional Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience working with diaspora or similar communities, with a proven ability to build and maintain strong networks.
  • Experience in creating and delivering presentations and workshops for international diaspora communities.
  • Demonstrated success in managing relationships with key stakeholders, including government and non-profit organizations.

Additional Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of diaspora dynamics, cultural nuances, and engagement challenges.
  • Strategic thinking skills, including the ability to develop and execute comprehensive plans.
  • Proficiency in digital tools and strong communication skills.
  • Fluency in English and knowledge of languages spoken by the Ethiopian diaspora (e.g., Amharic, Oromo, Tigrinya).

Position 2: Peace Building & Conflict Transformation Advisor

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Peace and Conflict Studies, Gender Studies, Human Rights, Political Science, Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • Advanced degree (MA) preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide advice and support to civil society organizations in designing and implementing effective dialogue formats with target groups.
  • Develop and update conflict and actor analyses, and support organizational learning processes.
  • Offer technical support for dialogues, workshops, and training in non-violent conflict transformation.
  • Assess and address capacity development needs of partner organizations.
  • Contribute to program planning and strategy as part of an advisory team.

Professional Experience:

  • At least 4 years of experience, including a minimum of 3 years in peace building, gender, and social inclusion work.
  • Strong knowledge of dialogue processes, conflict sensitivity, and social inclusion.
  • Proven skills in facilitating peace dialogues and training on capacity development.
  • Experience supporting CSOs, networks, or local initiatives in conflict transformation and gender inclusion.
