The International Rescue Committee (IRC), one of the world’s leading humanitarian international NGOs, provides relief, rehabilitation, and development support to vulnerable communities in over 30 countries.
The IRC began operations in Ethiopia in 2000 in response to severe drought in the Somali region. Currently, we assist Ethiopians and refugees across six regions, implementing emergency and development programs in health, water and sanitation, economic recovery and development (ERD), women’s protection and empowerment, education, child protection, and multi-sectoral emergency response.
Position: Water Technician Assistant
Qualifications:
- Diploma plus a certificate in Electromechanical or Plumbing Installation Technology from a recognized institution. Experience with surface, submersible, and solar-driven pumps and generator operation & maintenance is advantageous.
- 0 years of experience for degree holders or 2 years of proven experience for diploma holders in operating and maintaining electromechanical equipment, servicing pumps and generators, and pipe installation work.
Preferred Experience & Skills:
- Strong and proven ability to prioritize and deliver on time.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with partners at all levels.
- Ability to manage and work through change proactively and positively.
- Training or certification in Plumbing and Electromechanical preferred.
- NGO experience is a plus.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English and local languages.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Responsibilities:
The Water Technician Assistant will report to the Water Technician Officer. Responsibilities include the installation and maintenance of submersible pumps and generators to supply safe water to the Sherkole/Kurmuk Reception Center population. The role also involves ensuring accurate maintenance/service of pumps, generators, pipe installations, and training of Operation and Maintenance teams in a timely manner.
