Islamic Relief is a global humanitarian and development organization established in 1984, headquartered in Birmingham, UK. The organization not only responds to disasters and emergencies but also promotes sustainable economic and social development by collaborating with local communities, irrespective of race, religion, or gender.

Islamic Relief Ethiopia (IRE) began its operations in 2004 and is active in several regions: Somali Regional State (offices in Hargelle, Elkere, Bare, and Dekasuftu), Afar Regional State (Ewa and Gulina), Oromia Regional State (Borena, Chiro, and Meayso), and an additional operational office in Addis Ababa.

Position 1: Logistics Assistant

Formal Education/Qualification and Work Experience:

  • Diploma in Management, Purchasing, and Supplies Management, or related fields.
  • 2 years of experience in logistics management, preferably in development organizations.
  • Skills in negotiations and supplier relationship management.
  • High ethical standards and the ability to plan, prioritize, and organize self and others.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications.
  • Strategic thinker with a proven ability to translate strategic plans into action.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build good relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; proficiency in Afan Oromo is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team.
  • Ability to manage a complex and demanding workload with flexible behavior.
  • Commitment to humanitarian principles and action.

Location: Chiro

Position 2: Cashier

Formal Education/Qualification and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Accounting.
  • At least 2 or 3 years of experience, respectively, in an NGO environment.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Proven experience in cash management, preferably in development organizations.
  • Ability to work with financial software; knowledge of AX Dynamics ERP system is an advantage.
  • Excellent IT skills, including MS Office applications.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and team skills and the ability to be flexible in demanding situations.
  • Proficiency in both written and spoken English and the local language (Afan Oromo) is mandatory.
  • Good communication, public and interpersonal relations skills.
  • Sympathy with the aims and objectives of Islamic Relief.
  • Commitment to humanitarian principles and action and trustworthiness.

Duty Station: Chiro

Position 3: Driver

Formal Education/Qualification and Work Experience:

  • Completion of secondary education.
  • 3rd grade valid driving license.
  • 2 years of previous related work experience with non-governmental organizations.

Required Skills/Competencies:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Must reside in and share the experience, language, and/or culture of the community to be served.
  • Proficiency in both written and spoken English and the local language (Afan Oromo) is mandatory.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and team skills and the ability to be flexible in demanding situations.
  • Basic working knowledge of IR operational area.
  • Sympathy with the aims and objectives of Islamic Relief.
  • Commitment to humanitarian principles and action.
  • Commitment to IRE’s equal opportunity policy.
