Islamic Relief is an international relief and development charity established in 1984, headquartered in Birmingham, UK. Operating in Ethiopia since 2004, Islamic Relief Ethiopia (IRE) has offices in the Somali Regional State (Hargelle, Elkere, Bare, Dekasuftu), Afar Regional State (Ewa, Gulina), Oromia Regional State (Borena, Chiro, Meayso), and Addis Ababa.
Position 1: Cashier
Education/Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Accounting.
Experience:
- Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience, preferably in an NGO environment.
Skills and Competences:
- Proven cash management experience, ideally in development organizations.
- Proficiency with financial software; knowledge of AX Dynamics ERP is advantageous.
- Excellent IT skills, including MS Office applications.
Duty Station: Addis Ababa
Position 2: Water Technician
Education/Qualifications:
- Diploma in water technology, electromechanical works, or a related field.
Experience:
- At least 3 years in Water Work project implementation, preferably in emergency WASH projects within humanitarian, NGO, or government organizations.
Skills and Competences:
- Strong knowledge of water works, construction management, and emergency response activities.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and CAD.
- Fluency in Afari language is mandatory.
- Good command of written and spoken English.
- Previous experience in the INGO sector is a plus.
Duty Station: Afar Regional State, Zone-2 (Abala), and Zone-4 (Ewa) Woreda
Position 3: Hygiene and Sanitation Officer
Education/Qualifications:
- University degree in Rural Sanitation, Environmental Health Science, Public Health, Health Education and Promotion, Community Health, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience with international agencies or NGOs.
Skills and Competences:
- Expertise in public health, hygiene promotion, community development, and mobilization.
- Strong design, communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to manage conflicting priorities and provide solutions.
- Strong influencing and networking skills.
- Proficient in spoken and written English; fluency in Afar language is mandatory.
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, and databases.
- Capability to work under stressful conditions with limited services and movement.
- Independent work ethic with minimal supervision in a results-oriented environment.
- Experience with participatory community development methods.
- Strong team-working, communication, and leadership skills.
- Attention to detail and excellent numeracy.
Duty Station: Afar Regional State, Zone-2 (Abala), and Zone-4 (Ewa) Woreda
Position 4: Emergency WASH Officer
Education/Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in water resources management, Hydraulics, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
- At least 3 years of relevant WASH experience, preferably within NGO settings.
Skills and Competences:
- Demonstrated skills in design preparation, bill of quantities, and specifications.
- Experience in project planning, design, implementation, and M&E.
- Strong proposal and report writing skills.
- Proven management and people-coaching skills.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
- Strong interpersonal skills for working with multicultural and multi-ethnic teams and partner organizations.
- Experience in training and capacity building, including needs analysis and skill development.
- Ability to work under hardship and extended hours; proficient in data collection.
