The Embassy of Ireland is extending invitations to qualified candidates for an upcoming job opportunity. Since 1994, Ireland has fostered strong bilateral relations with Ethiopia, marked by the establishment of its Embassy in Addis Ababa. Ireland’s engagement in Ethiopia aligns with its overarching foreign policy, striving to promote a safer, just, fair, and sustainable global environment.

Aligned with Irish Aid, Ireland’s international development program, the Embassy seeks to recruit a Finance Manager, and the current focus is on hiring a highly motivated, diligent, proactive, and versatile individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills for the position of Senior Programme Manager.

Position: SENIOR PROGRAMME MANAGER

Overview of Role:

The Senior Programme Manager will report to the Deputy Head of Development Cooperation, overseeing the Horn of Africa Child Wasting Initiative. Responsibilities include managing grant funding across three countries, advancing Ireland’s international development priorities (including gender and climate), grant management, and monitoring, evaluation, and learning. The role involves assessing program partners’ proposals and utilizing a holistic embassy approach.

The successful candidate will contribute significantly to a new five-year mission strategy, requiring demonstrable strategic planning and development expertise. Essential is an understanding of good governance, gender equality, human rights, and their application in the Horn of Africa’s political and governance context.

Role:

Promote the execution of Ireland’s foreign policy and development strategies within the region.

Monitor and contribute to the Horn of Africa Child Wasting Initiative’s implementation across Kenya, Ethiopia, and Somalia.

Collaborate with embassy teams in Addis Ababa and Nairobi to implement and review the Child Wasting Initiative and Ireland’s broader commitments in food security, public health, and nutrition in the Horn of Africa.

Participate in the embassy’s management team, contributing to overall planning and mission work, providing policy advice, briefings, and proposals to senior management.

Manage institutional partnerships with key collaborators, leading the Child Wasting Initiative program.

Contribute to strategic planning, annual business planning and reporting, and staff performance and development.

Essential Requirements:

Master’s level academic qualification and a minimum of five years of progressively responsible senior management experience.

Excellent written and spoken English and Amharic, with knowledge of languages relevant to the Child Wasting Initiative considered advantageous.

Knowledge of theories, concepts, and approaches related to child wasting, nutrition programming, and food security.

Demonstrable experience in strategic planning and monitoring/evaluation/learning initiatives.

Readiness and capability to undertake regular travel to Kenya, Somalia, and remote regions of Ethiopia.

Legal entitlement to live and work in Ethiopia before recruitment.
