Job Title: Assistant for Child Protection

Job Summary:

The incumbent will be responsible for implementing a community-based child protection program in the Bambasi IDP site. This role involves supporting all aspects of prevention and response activities, including community engagement, psychosocial support, and leading case management services in collaboration with the woreda bureau of women and children affairs (BOWCA).

Primary Responsibilities:

Case Management:

Offer coaching, mentoring, and technical assistance to the woreda BOWCA regarding the management of child protection cases. Aid the BOWCA team in evaluating the living conditions of children at the IDP site and participate in devising an appropriate strategy to meet their requirements. Provide assistance in monitoring, verifying, and documenting child protection cases.

Follow up on the implementation of case action plans and home visits conducted by social workers.

Enter data into the Child Protection Information System (CPIMS) database and share compiled reports biweekly.

Support the BOWCA child protection officer in organizing appropriate care arrangements and alternative care systems for children.

Other Responsibilities:

Organize and facilitate weekly positive parenting sessions.

Assist child rights clubs in raising awareness about safety concerns faced by children.

Coordinate and support psychosocial activities at the Safe Healing and Learning Space (SHLS).

Collaborate with the CP Officer in celebrating international events and awareness-raising sessions.

Facilitate the involvement of children and the community in child-friendly spaces, documenting progress.

Assist in budget preparation, work plans, and spending plans, ensuring proper fund utilization and timely activity implementation.

Adhere to the child protection code of conduct and undertake additional tasks as assigned by supervisors.

Key Working Relationships:

The position reports directly to the Child Protection Officer, with additional oversight from the Asossa area coordinator and technical support from CP managers in Addis Ababa.

Job Requirements:

Basic to intermediate knowledge of procedural and systems required for the job.

University Degree in Social Science, Social Work, Psychology/Sociology with 2 years of relevant work experience for diploma holders or 0-year relevant work experience for first-degree holders.

NGO experience is advantageous.

Proficient in both spoken and written English and Amharic languages.

Experience in capacity building and mentoring.

Good digital literacy in MS Word and Excel.

Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

Familiarity with CP program approaches and practices.

Proven experience in developing competency-based training modules.

Women applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.

Experience in working with harmed and at-risk children in an NGO setting.

Fluency in spoken and written native language is a plus.
