The International Rescue Committee (IRC) addresses severe humanitarian emergencies and supports individuals whose lives and livelihoods are disrupted by conflict and disasters. The IRC aids displaced populations, host communities, and those remaining in their homes. Since 2000, we have been active in Ethiopia, implementing emergency and development programs in various areas including health, water and sanitation, economic recovery, women’s protection and empowerment, education, child protection, and multi-sectoral emergency response.

Position 1: Livelihood Diversification and Financial Inclusion Project Officer

Requirements:

  • BA/BSc in Economics, Cooperative and Marketing Development, Rural Development, International Development, Business Administration, Agricultural Economics, Sociology, Social Science, or a related field.
  • Two years of relevant experience with a BA/BSc, or five years with a diploma.
  • One year of relevant experience with a postgraduate degree.
  • Experience with NGOs is advantageous.
  • In-depth knowledge and practical experience in livelihood diversification, VSLA, RUSACCO, marketing cooperatives, youth employment, and resilience programs.
  • Demonstrated ability in planning, organizing, implementing, and monitoring livelihood diversification projects, non-farming IGAs, financial inclusion, and rural micro-finance.
  • Proven experience integrating gender, protection, and diversity into emergency response programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess food security and livelihoods to identify economic opportunities and viable income-generating activities for target groups. Address challenges in reaching vulnerable populations and inform planning and proposal development.
  • Provide technical input on livelihood diversification, IGAs, VSLAs, financial inclusion, and marketing system development for new proposals.
  • Develop and manage work plans for small enterprise development, VSLAs, market systems, and cooperatives/groups development. Ensure all stakeholders understand and implement their roles effectively.
  • Ensure timely and compliant implementation of interventions according to grant specifications and quality standards.
  • Engage with communities, authorities, and stakeholders to communicate project goals, activities, and procedures clearly.
  • Collaborate with communities and leaders to identify and verify project clients based on criteria, ensuring transparency and accountability.

Position 2: Education Manager (Re-advertised)

Requirements:

  • MA or BA in Social Work, Educational Planning and Management, Educational Leadership, Development Management, Development Economics, or a related field.
  • Three years of relevant experience with an MA or four years with a BA, including at least two years of managerial experience in international NGOs, preferably in a refugee context.
  • Proven management experience in child protection/education programs in emergency or post-conflict settings.
  • Strong monitoring and evaluation skills, with experience in proposal and report writing.
  • Proficiency in computer applications.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute educational strategies aligned with IRC’s mission and goals.
  • Represent IRC’s education programs at various coordination meetings and share updates.
  • Identify humanitarian education needs and secure funding through assessments and proposal development.
  • Document and apply lessons learned to scale up education programs.
  • Provide on-the-job training and technical support to the education team.
  • Coordinate with IRC operational staff to ensure effective program planning and implementation.

Requirements:

  • BSc or MSc in Hydraulic Engineering, Water Resource Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field from a recognized institution.
  • For MSc holders: At least three years of experience; for BSc holders: Four years of experience, including work in WASH sector development and emergency or post-conflict project management.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee WASH sector activities to ensure quality and timely implementation.
  • Manage WASH budgets and ensure compliance with IRC’s strategies, national policies, and international standards.
  • Ensure projects meet donor requirements and address beneficiary needs effectively.
  • Support field teams with technical, logistical, and management aspects of project implementation.
  • Provide guidance on water system designs and ensure high-quality construction and delivery.
  • Conduct needs and impact assessments as required and lead hygiene promotion efforts.
