The International Rescue Committee (IRC) addresses some of the most severe humanitarian crises worldwide, assisting individuals whose lives and livelihoods have been devastated by conflict or disaster to survive, recover, and regain control of their futures. IRC supports displaced people, including refugees and those affected by war or disasters, as well as the host communities that receive them. IRC has been active in Ethiopia since 2000, delivering emergency and development programs in sectors such as health, water and sanitation, economic recovery, women’s protection and empowerment, education, child protection, and emergency response.
Position 1: Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion Officer
Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, Nursing, Community Development, Health Education, or a related field from a recognized university.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience for degree holders, 1 year for postgraduates, or 5 years for diploma holders.
- Experience in WASH project implementation and knowledge of SPHERE standards and project cycle management is an advantage.
- Ability to work independently and within a cross-functional, distributed team structure.
- Experience in hygiene promotion within development, emergency, or refugee settings is desirable.
- Previous work experience in institutional hygiene promotion (schools & health facilities) is advantageous.
- Strong commitment to IRC’s mission and principles, with excellent computer skills, organizational abilities, attention to detail, and communication skills.
- Fluency in written and spoken English is essential, and proficiency in Af-Somali is a plus.
- Familiarity with participatory hygiene promotion methods (e.g., PHAST, CLTS/H, CHC, CHAST) and experience in organizing hygiene campaigns.
- Prior experience in humanitarian settings such as refugee camps or emergency responses is beneficial.
- Proficiency in MS Office programs and database tools.
Language Skills:
- Proficient in English (writing and speaking), and knowledge of the local language is an asset.

Position 2: Senior Environmental Health Officer
Educational Requirements:
- Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Hydraulic Engineering, Water Resource Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field from a recognized university.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience for bachelor’s degree holders, 5 years for diploma holders, or 1 year for postgraduates.
- NGO experience is preferred.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to manage workloads and meet deadlines.
- Experience in project management and team leadership.
- Proficiency in data analysis software (ArcGIS, SPSS) and engineering software (WaterCAD, EPANET, AutoCAD) is an asset.
- Knowledge of domestic water supply system hydraulic design.
- Proven ability to work effectively with partners and manage change positively.
Language Skills:
- Proficient in English (writing and speaking), and knowledge of the local language is an asset.

Position 3: Women’s Protection and Empowerment (WPE) Prevention Officer
Educational Requirements:
- Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or a related field from a recognized university.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
- 2 years of relevant experience for bachelor’s degree holders, 1 year for postgraduates, or 5 years for diploma holders.
- NGO experience is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of gender issues, power dynamics, and violence against women.
- Experience in community mobilization and training facilitation.
- Ability to lead, train, and supervise WPE field workers in a professional and respectful manner.
- Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to work under pressure, coordinate multiple tasks, and pay attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to use MS Office applications proficiently.
Language Skills:
- Proficient in English (writing and speaking), and knowledge of the local language is an asset.
