Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia was established in 1974 by Drs. Catherine and Reginald Hamlin. Our organization includes the main Fistula Hospital in Addis Ababa, five regional hospitals, a rehabilitation and reintegration center, and the Hamlin College of Midwives. The Hamlin College of Midwives, an accredited private higher education institution, is a cornerstone of Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia (HFE). We train midwives, deploy them to rural health centers across the country, and provide mentorship and support to partner health centers where our graduates are employed.
Position 1: Dean of the College
Educational Level/Specialization:
- Ph.D., Associate or Assistant Professor in Midwifery, Reproductive Health, MD with MPH, or related fields.
Work Experience:
- 6+ years of experience, with at least 3 years in a managerial/leadership position as a dean or in a similar role in a higher education institution.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work well within a team and individually.
- Must be a health professional.
- Proficiency with MS Office.
- Verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Strong management and leadership skills.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and lead overall college activities, including undergraduate and postgraduate programs, research activities, training, community service, staff performance, student academic progress, and the deployment of Hamlin Midwives in collaboration with the Prevention Manager.
- Maintain good relations with national authorities, stakeholders, and international partners.
- Periodically evaluate the Hamlin Midwives deployment program with the Prevention Manager.
- Implement college decisions regarding appointments, promotions, contract renewals, student admissions, and graduations in accordance with HFE/HMC rules and regulations.
- Propose new programs, curriculum revisions, and other improvements to the CEO.
- Design, adjust, and improve the curriculum as required by accreditation bodies, MOH, or other supervisory entities.
- Supervise the academic calendar and ensure activities are completed on schedule.
- Coordinate the preparation of plans, programs, and budgets in collaboration with department heads and submit them to the CEO.
- Ensure compliance with government standards for national accreditation.
- Coordinate all institutional, research, and other activities to foster a conducive work atmosphere.
- Ensure effective teaching methodologies are deployed for quality and innovative learning.
- Represent HCM in local and external meetings.
- Issue rules and procedures for the proper administration of the college.
- Ensure staff and students are aware of college and HFE policies, rules, and regulations.
- Plan and execute schemes to promote academic excellence and welfare for both staff and students.
- Serve students and staff fairly and equitably.
- Implement decisions and directives from the CEO, SMT, and Board of Trustees.
- Sign academic agreements with third parties on behalf of the college, in consultation with the CEO.
- Engage in teaching and advising student projects and research.
- Manage academic actions such as probation, exclusions, readmissions, and special evaluations.
- Supervise the implementation of college programs.
- Review and resolve student academic issues.
- Supervise graduation audits and certifications.
- Prepare periodic reports as required.
