Goh betoch bank s.c., ethiopia’s pioneering private mortgage financial institution, is scheduled to commence operations on october 25, marking its inauguration as the 21st bank at its headquarters. Founded by 11 visionaries including veteran bankers, investors, and academicians, the bank aims to address ethiopia’s significant housing backlog and affordability challenges due to rising construction costs, inflation, and inadequate housing financing schemes.
The bank, established with a subscribed capital of birr 1,056 million from 6,657 shareholders, with birr 521.5 million as paid-up capital, completed a three-year establishment process and obtained its license from the national bank of ethiopia (nbe) on july 28, 2021.
