Position: Senior International Assistance Officer

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent post-graduate level) in a relevant field from a recognized university

Language Proficiency:

  • Advanced proficiency in English (spoken, written, comprehension)
  • Advanced proficiency in spoken Amharic

Experience:

  • Minimum of three years managing complex international assistance programs.
  • Minimum of three years conducting or leading complex research and analysis related to international assistance initiatives.
  • Experience in building and maintaining professional networks.

Reporting to the Counsellor and Head of Development Cooperation at the Embassy of Canada, and working closely with the Ethiopia Bilateral Development team at the Embassy and Global Affairs Canada (GAC) in Ottawa, the Senior Development Officer will support all aspects of programming and project management. Responsibilities include identification, planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of bilateral programs and projects in Ethiopia. The Officer may also contribute to Canadian multilateral, partnership, or humanitarian assistance efforts.

This role involves collaboration with various stakeholders, including government bodies, civil society organizations, non-governmental organizations, and other donors. The Officer will represent the Government of Canada at events, engage in policy dialogues, and maintain a network of contacts to support Canadian development programming. Additional duties may include providing support for official and/or high-level visits.
