Position: Transport Manager

Main Purpose of the Role:
To manage the daily operations of the transport section at the British Embassy, ensuring the delivery of high-quality and efficient services to staff and stakeholders, in accordance with British government policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the planning, organization, and administration of the Embassy’s transport needs, including fleet management and staff duty schedules.
  • Implement and monitor the execution of the Embassy’s transport policy.
  • Manage and supervise the Deputy Transport Manager and the driver team.
  • Set development goals for the team and evaluate performance accordingly.
  • Prepare and monitor the annual and quarterly budgets for the transport department, managing expenditures and providing regular financial reports.
  • Ensure efficient management of resources, including vehicle replacements, maintenance, spare parts, and fuel.
  • Supervise the fleet of official vehicles, ensuring documentation, maintenance, driver competence, and adherence to health, safety, and security regulations.
  • Serve as the central contact for all transport-related communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Negotiate with external partners (dealers, garages, insurance agents, fuel suppliers) to ensure value for money for the British Government on transport purchases and contracts.
  • Coordinate logistical arrangements for VIP visits and regional trips.

Resources Managed:

  • Deputy Transport Manager and a team of drivers
  • Fleet of armored and soft-skinned vehicles, diesel fuel, and spare parts inventory
  • Management of an estimated £140k operational budget

Essential Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • Over 5 years of experience in transport or logistics management roles.
  • Proven ability to lead a large team in delivering high-quality services under pressure.
  • Fluency in English and Amharic.
  • Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Experience in budgeting and financial management.
  • Valid 3rd-grade (or equivalent) driving license.

Desirable Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • Relevant educational qualifications (degree or professional certification in business or logistics).
