The International Rescue Committee (IRC), a major global humanitarian organization, offers critical relief, rehabilitation, and development support to vulnerable communities across more than 30 countries. Since our initiation in Ethiopia in 2000 to address the severe drought in the Somali region, we have expanded our support to six regions within Ethiopia. Our programs include emergency and development assistance in areas such as health, water and sanitation, economic recovery and development, women’s protection and empowerment, education, child protection, and multi-sectoral emergency response.

Position 1: Livelihood Project Officer

Educational Requirements:

  • MSc/BSc in Agricultural Economics, General Agriculture, or a related field, or equivalent certification.

Preferred Experience & Skills:

  • 1 year of relevant experience for MSc holders, 2 years for BSc holders.
  • Experience with NGOs is a plus.
  • Demonstrated expertise in humanitarian response, particularly in livelihoods, food security, and agricultural development.
  • Proven experience in the agriculture sector or supporting smallholder farmers in livelihood recovery.
  • Experience in emergency settings or insecure environments is preferred.
  • Strong skills in program/technical leadership, planning, reporting, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Excellent written and oral communication abilities.
  • Experience with INGO coordination systems or advocacy is preferable.
  • Ability to apply skills in various capacities including data collection, implementation, advisory functions, training, and leadership.
  • Proficient in basic computer applications (MS Word, Excel, internet).
  • Ability to work well in a team and adapt to a multi-cultural environment.
  • Flexible and resilient under pressure.

Language Skills:

  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Knowledge of the local language is advantageous.

Position 2: WPE Adolescent Girls Program Officer (AGP Officer)

Educational Background:

  • BA/MA in Psychology, Social Work, or related fields.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • 2 years of relevant experience with a BA or 1 year with a postgraduate degree.
  • Basic supervisory/managerial skills.
  • NGO experience is a plus.
  • Technical and report writing skills.
  • Proficiency in computer applications.
  • Understanding of gender issues, power abuse, and violence against women.
  • Commitment to GBV and protection principles.
  • Experience with participatory techniques, community mobilization, and training facilitation.
  • Ability to lead, train, and support other WPE field workers effectively.

Position 3: Safe Programming Officer

Educational Requirements:

  • BA/BSc in Social Work, Sociology, Public Health, Gender Studies, or related field (2 years of experience required) or a Master’s degree (1 year of experience required).

  • At least 2 years of experience in gender mainstreaming, protection, or GBV prevention and response.
  • Experience developing and conducting training on relevant topics.

Educational Requirements:

  • Basic to intermediate knowledge from a combination of job-related training, on-job experience, and formal education.
  • 2 years of relevant experience for diploma holders or recent university graduates.
  • Mandatory proficiency in English, with fluency in Afan Oromo or another local language being advantageous.

Preferred Experience & Skills:

  • 2 years of relevant experience for diploma holders or no experience for BA holders.
