Position 1: AML (Anti-Money Laundering) Specialist

Role Purpose: The AML Specialist is responsible for identifying and analyzing criminal activities, including money laundering, terrorism financing, and fraud, that exploit Safaricom products and services. This role involves developing, implementing, and maintaining AML policies, procedures, and controls to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain effective monitoring and analytical functions for Safaricom products and services.
  • Implement a comprehensive review process for sample transactions or activities in relevant Safaricom systems to identify suspicious activities.
  • Create and oversee management and regulatory reports highlighting suspicious transactions.
  • Use criminal intelligence analysis techniques to identify organized and serious criminal activities.
  • Report incidents under anti-money laundering legislation to the appropriate authorities.
  • Identify and address vulnerabilities in systems and processes.
  • Conduct risk assessments of money laundering and terrorism financing threats against the company.
  • Develop procedures and systems to reduce losses and recommend preventative measures.
  • Research and provide input on design approach, performance, and functionality improvements for various software applications.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in law or a business-related field.
  • Compliance Analyst and Risk Assessment Certification (added advantage).
  • At least 4 years of proven experience, with a minimum of 2 years in AML and/or compliance in a financial institution or similar organization.

Position 2: Regional Sales Manager – Fiche (Re-Advertised)

Role Purpose: Reporting to the Regional Sales Manager, this role involves managing Safaricom Ethiopia’s business in the assigned area to drive customer acquisition and sales revenue growth. Responsibilities include ensuring product and service availability, aligning with distributors, and acquiring new individual and SME customers to meet cluster objectives. The position holder is also responsible for developing innovative strategies to increase float, M-PESA products, value-added services, and connections, while maintaining product availability within the area.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  • Effectively manage distributors, merchants, agents/sub-agents, and SSOs to ensure product availability within the cluster.
  • Liaise with the partner management team to ensure stock availability.
  • Chair weekly meetings with acquisition and distribution TDR supervisors.
  • Manage BAs/agents assigned to each cluster to ensure customer acquisition.
  • Grow sales and distribution within the area through effective market penetration strategies.
  • Execute sales programs aimed at market penetration.
  • Regularly visit all merchants and agents to check route coverage and product availability.
  • Ensure availability of float and all M-PESA products and services by growing merchants, agents/sub-agents, and SSOs.
  • Achieve set sales and usage targets (monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, or annually).
  • Drive acquisition through local initiatives to meet targets.
  • Lead and coordinate trade activities and events to achieve regional objectives.
  • Support deployment of merchandising standards (PICOS).
  • Monitor and follow up with supervisors, TDRs, and distributor staff to achieve their targets.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, sales, marketing, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in commercial management and business development roles.
  • Knowledge of the telecommunications industry, including products, services, and customer behavior.
  • An MBA degree in Business Studies is preferable.
  • At least 5 years of sales/trade execution experience within the FMCG/Telecom industry, with a minimum of 3 years in a sales managerial position.
  • Proactive, confident, energetic, and able to work under pressure.
  • Financial Responsibility: Responsible for driving sales revenue growth and contributing to the overall profitability of Safaricom Ethiopia. Involves budgeting and financial forecasting for commercial activities.
  • Fluency in the local language (Oromiffa) is essential.
