The Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Human Rights Officer specializing in Monitoring and Investigation.

Position : Human Rights Officer, Monitoring and Investigation

Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • MA in Human Rights, LLM in Human Rights Law, LLM in International Law, LLM in Public Law (related to Human Rights), or LLB
  • For MA/LLM holders: Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; for LLB holders: Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience
  • Proficiency in computer applications
  • Proficiency in Amharic is essential; knowledge of additional local languages is a plus

Job Purpose: The role involves managing individual human rights complaints, planning and executing monitoring activities in detention centers and emergency situations, preparing reports, and making recommendations. The role also includes developing and executing advocacy strategies and follow-up plans.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the investigation of assigned human rights complaints
  • Collaborate with coordinators and Senior Human Rights Officers on decision-making
  • Monitor detention facilities and draft corresponding reports
  • Conduct human rights monitoring during emergencies
  • Formulate and implement recommendations and advocacy strategies
  • Identify areas for systemic investigation and refer them for thematic review in consultation with the Senior Human Rights Officer/Coordinator
  • Manage stakeholder relationships and partnerships
  • Conduct research on human rights issues as needed
  • Contribute to revisions of systems, policies, guidelines, and tools
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Location: Gambella City Office

Reports To: Head of Gambella City Office

Employment Type: Open-ended/Indefinite

Salary Range: ETB 22,989.00 – ETB 27,380.00 monthly, plus ETB 7,200.00 housing allowance and ETB 2,200.00 transport allowance, based on qualifications, experience, and previous earnings.
