World Bank Job Opportunities

The World Bank Ethiopia Country Office is seeking up to three short-term consultants to support its energy sector initiatives in Ethiopia. These roles are located in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and are open to Ethiopian nationals.

The World Bank’s current energy projects in Ethiopia encompass various areas, including power sector reforms, investments in power transmission and distribution, solar mini grids and standalone solar systems, clean cooking solutions, and regional electricity interconnections.

Position 1: Junior Professional Associate

Requirements:

  • Advanced degree (Master’s level) in economics, social policy, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in jobs, skills, and livelihoods programs.
  • Knowledge of social protection and job-related policies, including youth employment and productive inclusion.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in policy research and translating theory into practical solutions.
  • Ability to present complex analysis clearly and concisely, often on tight deadlines.
  • Experience in challenging environments, particularly in Africa, is advantageous.
  • Proactive and independent with strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in teams.
  • Capable of managing multiple tasks and maintaining client relationships under conflicting demands.
  • Willingness to work in a Fragile, Conflict, and Violence (FCV) context.

Location: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Position 2: Junior Professional Associate

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in telecommunications, engineering, computer science, economics, or a related field with a focus on technology or ICT, plus at least 3 years of relevant experience in ICT/Digital Economy policy, regulation, or project implementation.
  • Knowledge of ICT sector policies, regulations, and digital transformation.
  • Strong conceptual and analytical abilities with an understanding of digital technologies and their socio-economic impacts, particularly in Africa.
  • Excellent client engagement skills and ability to effectively communicate complex information.
  • Proficiency in English required; additional languages (Portuguese or French) are preferred based on location.
  • Strong results orientation, business judgment, and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to travel to remote areas if needed.

Location: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; Antananarivo, Madagascar; or Maputo, Mozambique

Position 3: Investment Officer

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in Business, Finance, Economics, Agribusiness, or a related field.
  • Over 8 years of relevant experience in project/program development, including feasibility studies and investment transactions.
  • Strong background in investment banking, private equity, or fund management.
  • Proficiency in financial modeling and quantitative analysis.
  • Experience in project/program management with a focus on business development.
  • Ability to engage with private sector clients and government stakeholders.
  • Proven client relationship management skills and the ability to resolve complex issues.
  • Commitment to development work and understanding of IFC’s strategic priorities and business model.
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and communication skills in English.
