Position 1: Project Manager

Location: Dollo Ado, Somali Region Openings: 1

Program Overview: Mercy Corps is currently executing a WFP-funded project titled “Building Self-sustaining Farmer-Managed Solar Irrigation Models for Resilience” in Bokolmayo woreda, specifically targeting Kobe, Melkadida, and Sablale. This initiative adopts an integrated approach to enhance nutrition, livelihoods, and resilience among vulnerable agro-pastoralist host and refugee communities in drought-affected areas. Emphasizing the scaling up of irrigation support to maximize impact and sustainability in Bokolmayo woreda, the project aims to bolster food security, resilience, and social cohesion. Beneficiaries will receive training and inputs to enhance agricultural production, post-harvest management, value addition, market linkages, and entrepreneurship. Previous investments funded by Sida and Danida will inform the project’s expansion, consolidating successful approaches.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Strong preference for experience in the private sector.
  • Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, agribusiness, economics, business administration, or relevant field, or equivalent private sector or field experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the private sector or collaborating with various agencies in program coordination, market systems facilitation, production, agribusiness, and/or financial services.
  • Demonstrated success in programs related to market systems strengthening, financial inclusion, private sector development, marketing, and value chain programming.
  • Previous experience working with pastoralist communities, particularly in Ethiopia’s Somali region.
  • Proven ability to operate as a social entrepreneur, adept at team building, management, and leadership.
  • Demonstrated capacity in project and financial management.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to thrive in diverse and challenging environments.
  • Creative thinking ability with an innovative mindset.
  • Proficiency in English language verbal and written communication.

Position 2: Market Systems Development (MSD) Coordinator

Location: Samera Openings: 1

Program Overview: Mercy Corps has been active in Ethiopia since 2004, operating in rural, peri-urban, and urban areas across five regional states – Somali, Oromia, Afar, Southern Nations Nationalities and Peoples, Amhara – as well as Addis Ababa. Engaging in both development and humanitarian initiatives, we strive to integrate approaches, programs, and geographies for maximum impact. Our partners include governmental bodies, academic institutions, development and private sector entities, civil societies, and local communities.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Strong preference for experience in the private sector.
  • Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, agribusiness, economics, business administration, or related field, or equivalent private sector or field experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the private sector or collaborating with different businesses in program coordination, market systems facilitation, production, agribusiness, and/or financial services.
