Japanese Mission to the African Union Vacancy

The Japanese Mission to the African Union is seeking candidates for a Political Officer position within the Political Section, which plays a crucial role in advancing the mission’s objectives related to peace, security, and political affairs across Africa.

Position 1: Economic Officer

Responsibilities:

Under the guidance of Japanese officials in the Political Division, the appointee will regularly participate in African Union meetings and relevant sessions. Duties include drafting analytical reports on AU-related issues and matters concerning peace, security, and political affairs in Africa.

Work Schedule, Holidays, Leave, and Benefits:

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, with hours from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM and 1:30 PM to 5:15 PM.

Holiday Schedule: Recognition of designated Ethiopian and Japanese holidays.

Leave Entitlement: 20 days of paid annual leave per year.

Health Coverage: Health insurance provided by the Mission of Japan to the African Union.

Qualifications and Experience:

Minimum of 5 years of pertinent work experience in relevant sectors and organizations. Submission of certificates validating this experience is advised.

Profound understanding of economic and developmental issues in Africa, including familiarity with the African Continental Free Trade Area.

Proficiency in spoken and written English and Amharic.

Competence in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Demonstrated flexibility and dedication suitable for varied tasks.

Capacity to work autonomously, under supervision, and collaboratively within a team.

Exceptional analytical and communication skills.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent certification from an accredited university in fields pertinent to the position, preferably economics and development. Submission of official degree certificates is required for graduation verification.

Additionally, the position involves assisting in managing staff at the Ambassador’s residence. Regular visits to the Ambassador’s residence will be necessary to supervise renovations, repairs, and other maintenance activities.
