AAU Center for Human Rights:

The Center for Human Rights was established with the aim of advancing human rights through comprehensive research, training, and community service initiatives.

Founded in October 2008 as part of Addis Ababa University’s transformation into a research-oriented graduate institution, the Center for Human Rights is dedicated to promoting the rule of law, democratic governance, and human rights in Ethiopia. It operates under the College of Law and Governance Studies, alongside the Institute of Federal Studies and the School of Law, all integrated in 2012.

The Center is located at the Kifle Wodajo Memorial Center for Peace, Human Rights, and Democracy on the FBE Campus of Addis Ababa University.

Position 1: Monitoring and Evaluation Officer

Responsibilities:

Develop and enhance monitoring and evaluation procedures following RBM principles.

Monitor project activities, expenditures, and progress toward project output.

Recommend improvements to M&E tools.

Provide feedback on project strategies and activities.

Identify bottlenecks and propose strategies for improved project efficiency.

Report progress on all project activities at regular intervals.

Conduct capacity assessments on existing monitoring and evaluation systems.

Participate in project reviews and planning workshops.

Assist in coordinating across project sub-components for effective implementation.

Develop and oversee systems for monitoring beneficiaries with a gender-disaggregated approach and manage corresponding databases.

Perform other assigned duties.

   Requirements:

Minimum first degree in relevant social sciences.

MA in relevant field is an advantage.

Knowledge of project monitoring and evaluation.

A Business Analyst with a background spanning three years, coupled with two years of experience as a Market Analyst.

Salary (Gross): 31,740.00 (plus employment benefits).

   Location: Addis Ababa.

Position 2: Sub Project I & II Coordinator

Responsibilities:

Coordinate activities under Multidisciplinary Human Rights Education and Training & Research, Policy and Practical Collaboration and Diffusion sub-projects.

Coordinate curriculum, textbook, and manual design and development.

Plan and coordinate academic training and education activities.

Organize policy dialogue forums, facilitate research activities, and host international researchers and students.

Prepare and submit plans and reports.

Ensure quality supervision of activities under the Sub-Projects.

Promote CHR values.

Perform other required duties.

   Requirements:

Minimum Bachelor’s in Law or related social science fields.

Master’s degree in human rights or a closely related field.

5 years of relevant experience for MA/LLM, and 8 years for BA/LLB degree holders.

Multidisciplinary educational background is a plus.

Salary (Gross): 43,125.00 (plus employment benefits).

   Location: Addis Ababa.

Position 3: Training Courses Coordination Officer

Responsibilities:

Facilitate the development and launch of new post-graduate level training.

Coordinate the production of training materials for locally relevant multidisciplinary human rights graduate programs.

Design and organize specialized training courses on identified human rights issues.

Assist in training facilitation under the sub-project.

Edit and update existing training materials.

Produce narrative and financial reports.

Support in monitoring and evaluating project activities.

Perform other assigned duties.

   Requirements:

Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in law or relevant social sciences, or Master’s in Human Rights or related fields.

2 years of relevant experience for MA or 4 for BA.

Experience in higher educational or research institutions is an advantage.

Good interpersonal, networking, and communication skills.

Salary (Gross): 29,756.25 (plus employment benefits).

   Location: Addis Ababa.

Position 4: Networking and Partnership Promotion Officer

Responsibilities:

Recognize existing and future collaboration opportunities with stakeholders.

Assist in mapping stakeholders for project management purposes.

Manage documentation and contacts related to partnerships.

Aid the IT specialist in enhancing the Center’s web infrastructures to facilitate networking.

Execute responsibilities to ensure the sustainability of CHR’s project activities.

Create proposals and investigate funding options for the Center’s projects.

   Requirements:

Minimum first degree in Journalism, communication, project management, law, development studies, human rights, or other social science field.

Minimum 3 years of experience for BA and 2 years for MA.

Excellent interpersonal skills.

Experience in forging partnerships and grant applications.

Salary (Gross): 33,723.75 (plus employment benefits).

   Location: Addis Ababa.

Position 5: Legal Officer

Responsibilities:

Provide legal aid services, including preparing legal documents and offering advice.

Assist in following client cases and communicating with justice sector actors.

Organize community rights trainings and engage with community leaders.

Prepare a compendium of cases and legal instruments.

Assist in the preparation of plans and reports.

Perform other assigned duties.

   Requirements:

First degree in law.

At least 2 years of relevant work experience in legal practice.

Experience in legal/court practice.

Having a background in project management and community engagement is advantageous.

Proficiency in Afaan Oromoo is required.

Salary (Gross): 12,075.00.

   Location: Oromia, Shashemene.
