Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) is extending invitations to qualified candidates for the following positions:

Position 1: Junior Researcher

The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was established in 1970 through the collaboration of Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations, supported by the Ethiopian Ministry of Health. Named after Dr. Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who first identified the leprosy bacillus, AHRI has been reorganized as a biomedical research institution under the Federal Ministry of Health. Over its 50 years of service, AHRI has been a key player in talent and knowledge transfer, contributing to research agendas with significant impact on Ethiopia’s development and beyond.

The Genomics and Core Laboratory Facilities Department at AHRI is currently seeking self-driven, motivated, innovative, and energetic researchers to join our team as Associate Researcher I with expertise in cancer immunology.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Implement the overall plan of the directorate on a weekly, monthly, and yearly basis.
Conduct research, store and document samples according to the appropriate storage policy.
Perform laboratory activities using various techniques and prepare media and working reagents based on study protocols.
Participate in the preparation of guidelines, manuals, and standard operating procedures related to assigned activities.
Engage in internal and external quality control activities for accreditation.
Utilize supplies and reagents efficiently, adhering to the organization’s supply management principles.
Verify laboratory findings, report to researchers, and ensure proper storage of analyzed specimens.
Assist with monitoring activities, follow safety and maintenance guidelines, and manage the inventory of laboratory equipment.
Provide assistance to researchers and support laboratory visitors, including interns from universities and research institutions.


Job Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology with no prior experience.
Skills in basic immunological and molecular lab techniques are advantageous.
GPA requirement: 2.75 for females, 3.00 for males.
Positions available: 2 (Two)
Duty station: Addis Ababa
Salary: $5,358.00
House Allowance: $2,500.00
Mobile & Internet allowance: $500.00
Terms of employment: One-year contract with the possibility of extension based on performance and budget availability.

Position 2: Associate Researcher I

Job Requirements:

Master’s degree in biomedical sciences with no prior experience or a first degree with four years of experience.
Two publication points in reputable journals.
Skills in basic immunological and molecular lab techniques, including immunohistochemistry. Experience in cancer research is advantageous.
Required Skills and Expertise:

Investigative Skills: Identifying problems, assessing risks, defining expected/potential outcomes, examining specimens, cataloging information.
Research/Quantitative Skills: Designing experiments, using laboratory equipment, conducting research, recording observations, interpreting results, using statistical tests, preparing reports.
Analytical Skills: Examining elements of problems/ideas, reasoning logically, categorizing data, making projections, organizing ideas/information, evaluating effects of phenomena.
Communication Skills: Writing research proposals, summarizing findings, explaining complex concepts, designing visual aids, reporting results orally and in writing, presenting alternative explanations.

Salary: $11,305.00
House Allowance: $6,000.00

Position 3: Researcher I

Job Requirements:

PhD in biomedical sciences with four years of research experience in cancer and cardiovascular diseases.
Five publication points in respected journals.
Required Skills and Expertise:

Investigative Skills: Identifying problems, assessing risks, defining expected/potential outcomes, examining specimens, cataloging information.
Research/Quantitative Skills: Designing experiments, using laboratory equipment, conducting research, recording observations, interpreting results, using statistical tests, preparing reports.
