SOS Sahel Ethiopia, in collaboration with FARM Africa and supported by the Royal Norwegian Embassy, is currently executing the “Forest for Sustainable Improvement Program (FSDP)” across several districts in Bale, East Bale, West Arsi, and East Bale Zones within the Oromia Regional State. In the course of program implementation, SOS Sahel Ethiopia invites applications from qualified and experienced individuals for the following positions:

Position 1: Senior Business Development Expert

Objective of the Position:

The Senior Business Development Expert is a technical role responsible for guiding and managing the business development and administration of FSDP, working closely with the technical teams of SOS Sahel Ethiopia and FARM Africa.

Specific tasks and responsibilities include:

Leading the overall development and management of viable green business activities in the project operation districts.

Assessing potential green business options for cooperatives, youth, women, and farmers and providing guidance and support.

Mentoring the development and implementation of business plans by various groups and individuals.

Facilitating the creation of business partnerships between non-timber forest product (NTFP) producers and relevant market actors.

Supporting vocational training for youth and ensuring their self-employment or employment by private agencies.

Building the capacity of staff, communities, government, and other stakeholders in green business development, including financial management.

Ensuring the participation of unemployed youth and women in profitable green rural businesses.

Ensuring proper utilization of forest benefits, including carbon revenue by Participatory Forest Management (PFM) cooperatives.

Adhering to project principles, values, standards, MOUs, and donor Grant Agreement in business development activities.

Documenting key business development lessons and sharing them with stakeholders.

Ensuring the proper delivery and utilization of tools, equipment, and materials procured for business development.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

MA/BA Degree in Business Development, Agricultural Economics, or Business Management with a minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience.

Experience in value chain analysis, business plan development, and management.

Strong command of English language and Afaan Oromo (desirable).

Position 2: Senior Women & Youth Empowerment Expert

Specific tasks and responsibilities include:

Participating in detailed implementation planning and annual reviews at the project field level to ensure women and youth-responsive project planning.

Developing comprehensive implementation plans, schedules, and checklists to support the project’s field office.

Building the capacity of women and young girls through tailored training programs.

Conducting assessments, reviews, and studies to enhance the leadership role of youths and women in various institutions.

Providing technical support to field offices in achieving project outputs, results, and activity implementations.

Supporting advocacy activities and campaigns for women’s economic empowerment.

Ensuring gender equity and equality in all aspects of project planning, implementation, and reporting.

Collaborating with program teams, government, and community stakeholders to increase women’s and youth’s access to project services.

Conducting gender analysis and providing program-level information on key gender gaps.

Providing technical support on gender, women, and youth empowerment to project targets.

Facilitating capacity-building training and workshops for stakeholders on women’s rights and empowerment.

Conducting community events and awareness creation on gender empowerment and youth capacity-building.

Monitoring progress, reporting project outcomes, and documenting best practices and challenges.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

MA/BA Degree in Gender Development, Social Studies, Development Studies, or related field with a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience.

Demonstrable knowledge and professional expertise in gender, women’s empowerment, and mainstreaming women in development programs.

Strong command of English language and Afaan Oromo (desirable).
