Ärzte der Welt e.V., the German branch of Médecins du Monde/Doctors of the World (MDM), is a humanitarian organization focused on global health care initiatives. With 17 partners worldwide, the MDM network is active in nearly 417 health-related projects across 74 countries, delivering both emergency aid and long-term health support. In Ethiopia, MDM has been working since 1986. Ärzte der Welt Germany began independent operations in 2021, focusing on development partnerships and emergency humanitarian efforts in the Somali Region, supporting drought- and conflict-affected communities.
Position 1: Finance Officer
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Business
- CPA or ACCA certification is required
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years in a similar INGO role or 5 years in finance/accounting within an NGO
Key Skills:
- Proven management experience
- Proficiency in Excel and report writing
- Fluency in English and Somali/Amharic
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational abilities
- Familiarity with Winpaccs (accounting software) is preferred
Essential Attributes:
- Accountability, resilience under pressure, adaptability, and strong interpersonal skills
Position 2: Logistics and Security Officer
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Procurement, or a related field
- Relevant training in logistics, fleet, security, and operations
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years with INGOs
Required Skills:
- Strong organizational skills in emergency contexts
- Proficiency in English and Somali, Amharic is an advantage
- Digital security, logistics, and procurement expertise
- Competence in Microsoft Office
Additional:
- Knowledge of the Somali region is beneficial
Position 3: Procurement Assistant
Role Overview:
Reporting to the Logistics Officer, the Procurement Assistant will oversee local procurement processes, ensuring adherence to Ärzte der Welt policies, donor requirements, and value-for-money principles.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Adhere to MDM Germany’s procurement procedures and donor requirements.
- Support monthly procurement planning, PR, RFQ, PO/contracts processing.
- Assist in reviewing technical specifications for procurement, ensuring transparency and value for money.
- Maintain organized procurement files, both digitally and in hardcopy, for audit purposes.
- Conduct local market surveys and keep the supplier database updated.
- Update the Procurement Tracking System (PTS) and report weekly to the Logistics Officer.
- Aid in maintaining archiving systems for procurement documentation.
- Assist in establishing framework contracts for frequently used items.
- Ensure all procurement follows ethical and anti-corruption standards.
- Prepare and process payment request forms post-delivery.
Qualifications:
- Secondary school certificate with relevant training in procurement, logistics, or operations
- Experience in Jigjiga market procurement is a plus
- Minimum 2 years of INGO experience
- Proficiency in English and Somali; Amharic is an asset
- Organizational and communication skills, especially in emergency settings
