Safaricom Ethiopia, part of an international consortium that includes Vodafone Group, Safaricom PLC, Vodacom Group, Sumitomo Corporation, and British International Investment (BII), is seeking qualified candidates for the following positions:
Position 1: DevOps Engineer
Role Purpose:
The DevOps Engineer will be responsible for supporting the development process by implementing Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines, adopting DevSecOps practices, and ensuring that systems are secure, scalable, and efficient. The role involves automating workflows, monitoring system performance, and working with various cloud platforms and DevOps tools.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, maintain, and enhance CI/CD pipelines for fast and reliable software deployment.
- Implement security best practices across the software development lifecycle (DevSecOps).
- Perform system health checks and monitoring for critical services to ensure optimal performance.
- Utilize monitoring tools like Splunk and Grafana to track and resolve system issues.
- Manage and secure secrets with HashiCorp Vault.
- Operate and maintain Kubernetes environments, including managing the Headlamp Kubernetes dashboard.
- Manage continuous integration and delivery workflows using Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, Argo CD, and Argo CD CLI.
- Apply Git Flow for efficient version control.
- Oversee infrastructure management on AWS cloud services.
- Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and Ansible.
Core Competencies and Requirements:
- Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Experience in the Fintech industry is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills and adaptability in fast-paced environments.
Professional Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Certifications in public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and Kubernetes.
- 3+ years of practical experience in a DevOps role.
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, PowerShell, and Bash.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, Argo CD.
- Familiarity with HashiCorp Vault and Kubernetes management tools like Headlamp.
- Strong experience with AWS cloud services and IaC tools such as Terraform and Ansible.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work across teams.

- At least 2 years of experience in project coordination, project control, or a related role, preferably in telecom or engineering industries.
- Strong negotiation and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and handle pressure.
- Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of procurement processes, PRs, and BOQ verification.
- Experience in the telecom industry, specifically with Mobile/Fiber Service Providers or Operators.
