World Vision Ethiopia began its operations in the country in 1971, focusing on relief efforts, and officially established its Ethiopia office in 1975. The organization’s work initially centered on relief, rehabilitation, and small community development initiatives. During the 1984/85 drought, World Vision Ethiopia was instrumental in a large-scale relief operation that saved millions of lives.

Position 1: Social Worker

Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in social work, sociology, psychology, child protection, public health, or related social sciences.
  • Strong understanding and capability in implementing comprehensive Child Protection (CP) responses, including Gender-Based Violence (GBV) initiatives.
  • Familiarity with or interest in community-based protection mechanisms.

Required Professional Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, sociology, psychology, education, or related fields.
  • Minimum of one year of relevant experience in child protection or related fields.
  • Experience in Gender-Based Violence programming is an added advantage.
  • Proven ability to implement integrated CP and GBV responses.
  • Interest or knowledge in community-based protection mechanisms.
  • Direct case management experience with children and adolescents is a plus.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and creativity in planning and problem-solving.

Education, Training, and Certifications

  • Strong understanding of integrated CP responses, including GBV.
  • Awareness of community-based protection mechanisms in emergency situations.

Position 2: Emergency Livelihood Officer

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of three years of experience in agriculture/livelihood project implementation and/or emergency response.
  • Prior experience with NGOs is preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience in emergency response is an advantage.
  • Hands-on experience with development project management and emergency response, particularly in challenging environments.
  • Familiarity with the work location is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Crop Agronomy, Plant Science, Horticulture, or related fields.
